The children have had a really successful start to the new school year and have already achieved so much.
Accelerated Reader
We use Accelerated Reader at The Mulberry so teachers can manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at their own level that they are interested in, and reads it at home. When finished, they take a short quiz on the computer and passing the quiz shows that your child understood what they read. Accelerated Reader gives children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
To complete a reading quiz, follow the instructions below:
- Click on ‘I am a Student.’
- Enter your username and password and click ‘log in’
- Click on the orange ‘Accelerated Reader’ button.
- Type the name of the book into the search bar and press the blue ‘Search’ button.
- Find your book from the list. Be very careful to choose the correct book. Check the name of the author and that the title matches exactly. Click the ‘Take Quiz’ button and then the ‘Start Quiz’ button.
- Select either ‘I was read to’, ‘I read with someone’ or ‘I read myself.’
- Press the blue ‘Start Quiz’ button.
- Answer the questions by choosing the correct option, either A, B, C or D. When you have selected your answer, click ‘Next’. Answer all of the questions in the quiz
- Click on the star to give the book a rating depending on how much you liked the book. Click ‘Next’.
- You will see whether you passed the quiz or not. Remember that you need to get 5 out of 5, or 9 or 10 out of 10, to show that you understood the book.
Click on the blue ‘See My Progress’ button. You can now find other books to do quizzes on.
